I first learned to fly at Sundance in 2011, and have since acquired instrument rating, commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates for single engine airplanes. I volunteer with the Palo Alto Civil Air Patrol squadron as an instructor pilot, mission pilot, maintenance officer, and the local squadron commander. I’m a “hobby pilot” with a day job, designing pointing and control algorithms for an airborne telescope (in a 747). As such, I’m a part time instructor, with emphasis on weekends and evenings, but I can schedule other times by arrangement, as is often necessary in winter. Flying a small aircraft is an amazing experience, and I enjoy sharing that experience with others. I’ve introduced hundreds of youth to aviation over the years, and this was my motivation for becoming an instructor. I have experience in mountain flying, high performance and complex aircraft, low altitude flying, airborne photography, precision search and survey pattern flying, ferry and VIP transport flights. I’ve found it incredibly rewarding, and I’d like to share it with you!
