Teaching philosophy:
Above all, learning to fly should be an enjoyable experience! I put a
primary emphasis on practical safety while sharing my enthusiasm for how
much fun flying can be. I teach the practical skills you need to do the
things you're likely to do after you get your license, e.g. to
accomplish that overnight trip to LA or Tahoe.
I have a science/engineering background and professional teaching
experience at the undergradate and graduate school levels. If you want
to hear all about lift/drag curves or maximum performance turn theory,
we'll talk about it. If you just want to know how to keep the pointy
end of the plane going forward, that's great, too.
Background:
I started flying when I was 3 (my father was a pilot) and earned my
private pilot certificate as a teenager in Minnesota in 1994. Since
then, I have flown extensively in a variety of US locations including
Los Angeles and Boston, in addition to 13+ years flying in the Bay
Area. I have been a flight instructor (CFI and CFII) since 2004.
Choosing a flight instructor:
Good communication with your instructor is among the most important
factors that will maximize your experience. Please don't hesitate to
give a call to chat about the process.
Types of instructing:
Introduction flights, initial (Private Pilot) training, Instrument,
Commercial, flight reviews, aircraft checkouts, IPCs, mountain flying, etc.
Availability: Primarily weekends with occasional weeknights.
